NBBF Announces Commencement of D’Tigers Camping Exercise

The Nigeria Basketball Federation has announced that final camping for the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket qualifiers will commence on November 23, 2020.

Making this known in Abuja, the NBBF Secretary general, Afolabi-oluwayemi Olabisi said players are expected to fly into Kigali.

On the duration of the final camping exercise, the NBBF president, Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida revealed that the federation would have loved to have a longer final training camp for the qualifiers, but due to the prevailing factors, camp will have to open four days before the team’s first game.

The NBBF president also explained that the financial implication on the federation discouraged any attempt to embark on an extended final camping exercise.

Nigerian Basketball: Alex Nwora Resigns as D'Tigers Coach

Associate Head Coach of Nigeria men basketball team D’Tigers, Alex Nwora has quit his role with the national team.
It was gathered that Nwora sent in his resignation on August 6, 2021 in a letter addressed to the President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, Ahmadu Musa Kida.

Reasons for Nwora’s resignation coming after the Tokyo 2020 and about a week to the Afrobasket 2021 were not immediately stated.Nwora was engaged by the Nigeria Basketball Federation in 2017 and led the Nigerian national basketball team to the 2017 FIBA Afrobasket tournament winning a silver medal.
He also led Nigeria to the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifier, making the nation the first to pick a spot in the finals in China with three matches outstanding.

D’Tigress Lose Second Game Against France At Tokyo Games

Nigeria’s Women Basketball National team lost their second game of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics 87-62 to France on Friday morning.

D’Tigress who lost 81-72 to the United States Women National team in their first game could only draw 20-20 in the last quarter of their encounter with the French women.

The Ottis Hughley-tutored side lost the first three quarters; 18-12, 26-15, 23-15.

Nigeria will face hosts, Japan in the last match of Group B on 2nd August.

Hon. Olaniyi Daodu: Osun State Handball Will be Great

Osun State Handball Association Chairman, Hon. Olaniyi Daodu has promised to take Osun State Handball to greater heights by investing heavily in the game.

Hon. Daodu made this known today when he paid courtesy visit to the Handball team training ground at Osogbo City Stadium.

Hon. Daodu who spoke about the undying passion he has for handball said he was an handball player in his secondary School days. He said he is ready to assist handball players to get to stardom.

” We want people to know that football is not the only money spinning sport that can be invested in. Handball, if properly handled and well funded is an alternative to football”

” I want to assure you, our Handball players that Osun Handball team will always be participating in all handball competitions organized in the country.”

” All we just need from you players is to always be willing and ready to make the state proud by winning laurels for us because to whom much is given, much is expected. I will always make myself available every Saturday to see your trainings and provide you with your basic needs to enjoy the game.” Said Hon. Daodu.

Hon. Daodu also took time out to talk about the upcoming 5-aside handball competition coming up later this month in Osun State.

” We are hosting a 5-aside handball competition in the state later this month. It is going to be a very big event. I have given directive for the renovation and painting of the handball court to commence immediately.” Concluded Hon. Daodu.

Responding on behalf of all handball players, Seun Oyewale thanked Hon. Daodu for hitting the ground running immediately. He also promised him that the handball team will deliver and make the state proud.
