Nigeria football federation gives update on 2019/2019 football season

The Nigeria Football Federation has debunked reports that a vast majority of club owners in the Nigeria Professional Football League had voted to end the 2019-2020 season.

Some reports had stated that the season will be canceled and the Points Per Game (PPG) principle would be adopted to determine Nigeria’s flagbearers in next year’s continental club competitions.

However, the NFF has issued a disclaimer on Monday night via a statement by its General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

According to the statement, the NFF is still on wide consultation to determine the format and pattern to foreclosing the 2019/2020 Football Season.


The statement, however, urged everyone to wait until the conclusion of the ongoing consultations.

The Nigeria Football Federation (formerly known as Nigeria Football Association until 2008) is Nigeria’s football governing body. Formally lunched in1945, It formed the first Nigerian national football team in 1949. It joined CAF in 1959 and FIFA in 1960. The NFF headquarters is located in the city of Abuja.As of 2008 it organises three leagues: The Nigerian Premier League, the Amateur League and the Women’s League, and five competitions, including the Federation Cup and Women’s Cup

Manchester united maintains 5th spot on the latest EPL table standing.

A brace from Bruno Fernandez and a 16th minute goal by Mason Greenwood were enough as Manchester United coasted to a 3-nil victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday.

Manchester United who are actively pursuing a Champions League spot in the EPL opened scoring to remain 5th spot on the table, after Greenwood made a determined run into Brighton’s 18-yard area before finding the bottom corner of the net.


 However, Fernandez doubled the lead in the 29th minute after his effort was helped on by a deflection from Brighton. The Portuguese increased the tally in the 50th minute after he received an inch-perfect cross from Greenwood to make it 3 nil.

Manchester United have now amassed 52 points after playing 32 games to stay 2 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

British Nigerian football player saka signs new deal with arsenal

English professional football player who is also of Nigerian descent, Bukayo Saka has signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal football club.

The Gunners confirmed on Wednesday, July 1, that the promising 18-year-old winger has committed his future after inking a long term deal with the London club.

Saka, who started his career with Arsenal’s Hale End academy also took to Twitter to announce the good news.

He tweeted:

“London is my home. Arsenal my team. I’m so happy to finally announce my contract extension. I love playing for this club and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.

“The hard work continues so I can continue living my dream. God is Great !!’



Speaking on the deal, Arteta told the club’s official website: ‘Bukayo is a talented and intelligent young player. He has impressed me with his work ethic and attitude to learn and adapt, and it has paid off in his performances.

‘I am excited to continue working with him to develop him further, and for him to help us achieve our goals.’


Bukayo Saka was born in London Borough of Ealing to Nigerian parents, meaning he is eligible to play for either Nigeria and England. So far in his young career, Saka has only played for England, representing The Three Lions at youth level.

Lionel Messi scored his 700th first team goal as Barcelona drew 2-all with Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou.

Barcelona who are challenging league leaders, Real Madrid for La Liga Santander title went ahead as early as the 11th minute of the game when Diego Costa scored an own goal but eight minutes later Saul Nigez found the back of the net from the spot to equalize for the visitors.

The Catalans restored their lead 5 minutes into the second half as Lionel Messi converted a spot kick to notch his 700th career goal. (Total Goals Scored by messi).


However, Barcelona’s lead was short-lived as Saul Nigez restored parity from the spot for the second time in the game 12 minutes later.

The result leaves Barca in the second spot with 70 points just one point adrift of leaders, Real Madrid.
