F.G. on Plans to Establish National Institute of Traditional Complimentary Alternative Medicine

The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has inaugurated a 20-Member strong Committee to fine-tune modalities for the establishment of the National Institute of Traditional Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM) in Nigeria to be supervised by the University of Benin.

According to the Minister, the onset of COVID-19 drew national attention more than it ever did for Nigerians and the health authorities to think of developing home-grown solution to health challenges.

Members of the Commitee includes representatives of the Federal ministry of education, the Director of Traditional, Complimentary and Alternative Medicine, almond others and is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Health, Abdulaziz Mashi Abdullahi.

Obiano dethrones 3 traditional rulers, reinstates 5 others

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra has withdrawn the certificates of appointment of three traditional rulers in the state and also reinstated five others.

Chief Greg Obi, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs announced this on Friday in Awka.

Obi in a statement dated Dec. 17 and entitled: “Update on Suspension of Igwes in Anambra’’ said the governor acted according to the powers vested on him by the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law, 2007.

He gave the names of the traditional rulers who had their certificates withdrawn as, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia Town, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle and Igwe G. B. C. Mbakwe of Abacha.
The governor announced the lifting of suspension on five traditional rulers including , Igwe Simon Chidibem of Umumbo, Igwe A. N. Onwuneme of Ikenga, Igwe Mark Anthony Okonkwo of Alor, Igwe Chukwuma Orji of Ezinifite and Igwe S.O. Obiora of Ezira.
Obi said the withdrawal and reinstatement of the certificates were with immediate effect.

According to the statement, the government is also reviewing the suspension slammed on Igwe Kelly Nkeli of Igbariam, Igwe Dr Emeka Iluno of Ifitedunu and Igwe Peter Uyanwa of Ukwulu.

Obi said all the affected traditional rulers have one month to submit the certificates of recognition to the Secretary of the Local Government of their communities from the day of the announcement.

Recall that the Anambra government on August 11, 2020 suspended 12 traditional rulers for alleged gross misconduct.

According to Obi who announced the suspension, during the sanction period, the suspended traditional rulers are required to stop holding court as traditional rulers and to desist from discharging traditional rulers’ functions in their communities or anywhere in the state and beyond.

Ogun State House of Assembly Mace have been recovered

The police operatives attached to Trade Fair Station of the Lagos State Police Command has recovered the missing mace of the Ogun State House of Assembly at Abule Ado Area of the state this Friday.

The police operatives, who received intelligence from members of the community that someone in a moving vehicle, suspected to be Toyota Sienna Space Wagon, threw out an object into the nearby bush quickly moved in and recovered the object which was later identified as the Ogun State House of Assembly Mace.

The mace was allegedly stolen from the House of Assembly compex , Ogun State recently.
In a statement,police public relations officer, lagos state command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained that the mace has been handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State,Hakeem Odumosu, who instructed the DCP State CID,to protect it and liaise with the Ogun State Police Command to return the mace to the state.

Child marriage is a union, formal or informal, between an adult and a child under certain age, typically age 18, both vary across countries and therefore the marriageable age may be older or younger in a given country.

The child can be a girl or a boy, the large majority of it are between young girls and men. Globally over 12 million girls are married under the age of 18 yearly according to 2002 to 2010 research.

Child marriage is related to child betrothal and it includes civil cohabitation and court approved early marriage after teenage pregnancy.

Long term Consequences for child brides.

To the girl bride, in addition to mental health issues and a lack of access to education and career opportunities. This includes adverse health effects as a result of teenage pregnancy and childbirth, and a lack of access to career opportunities.

Effects of child marriage on boys.

Being ill-prepared for certain responsibilities such as providing for the family, early fatherhood, and a lack of access to education and career opportunities are basically the effects on the groom.

Causes.

Child marriages are common throughout history. Child marriage still exist in countries such as Niger, Chad, and Mali.
