774,000 JOBS: MORE SLOTS FOR GOVERNORS, LAWMAKERS

The Federal government has initiated a new sharing formula for 774,000 public work jobs which will give Federal lawmakers, Governors, Ministers and other stake holders 40 percent of the slots.

Director-General of The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Dr. Nasir Mohammed Ladan, who gave a breakdown of the allocation of slots, said the permitted slots in each local government were as follows: National Assembly members (150); Governors (100) and Ministers (50); 100 slot will be shared among Traditional rulers, Religious bodies and Civil society groups while the remaining 600 slots will be given to the public.

Dr. Ladan added, that the government was determined to spread the job slots to the all segments of the society especially the grassroots as part of the government’s plan is to empower beneficiaries to set up their trade.

He gave assurance that the government will stick to the standards laid out whether the applicants are from the concessionary or the public list.

#EndSARS: Governor Oyetola suspends curfew in Osun

The governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, has suspended the 24-hour curfew he imposed on the state to tackle the rising violence and damages caused by hoodlums under the #EndSARS protests.

Mr Oyetola in a statement by the secretary of the state government, Wole Oyebamiji, noted the high level of compliance with the 24-hour curfew he had declared to forestall breakdown of law and order.

He said after a review and setting up of a panel of inquiry, the governor decided to lift the curfew.

On the MoU, “The state government has further approved henceforth 100% payment of monthly pensions for retirees earning N30,000 and below while other retirees not in the said category shall be paid 75% of their monthly pensions.

“After reviewing the situation of the last 48 hours and following the inauguration of the State’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, the Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, hereby suspends the 24-hour curfew, effective from today, Friday, October 23, 2020 till further notice.

#EndSARS: Ogun State Governor Abiodun Commiserates with Families of Victims

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commiserated with the families of those who have lost their loved ones and properties in the ENDSARS violence in different parts of the country.

Governor Abiodun in a statement  by his chief press secretary, Kunle Somoorin  expressed displeasure at some of the developments in the early hours of today in the state that despite his appeal for peace on Tuesday such ugly incidence still occured .

He berated the incidents of  burning of Atan Ota police station, killing of the Divisional Crime Officer and one other person, as well as inflicting serious injury on the Divisional Police Office, sporadic gunshots by hoodlums in some  part of the state among  other violent acts.

He therefore called on protesters  to bring the protests to an end and allow for the full implementation of their demands while calling on security agents to exercise caution in dealing with the protesters to avoid further loss of  lives and properties.

The Governor Abiodun who has deployed security personnel to ensure an end to the violence, directed the security team to continue to patrol the major streets to ensure peace and tranquility in the day-to-day activities of citizens.

He however pleaded with all  public and private hospitals to treat all  in need of medical attention brought to their facilities.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Urges Youths to Embrace Peace

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has enjoined protesting youths in the country to give peace a chance as they go about making their legitimate demand.

Obasanjo in a statement on Wednesday, October 21 disclosed that it was with a heavy heart and a deep sense of concern about the going on in the country that he was making the appeal.

In a statement  which was made available to newsmen through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former President advised President Buhari to also restrain the military and other security agencies from using force no matter the level of provocation.

Obasanjo therefore called on the aggrieved youths and the government to embrace dialogue as the  country was at a critical moment now hence the  need for the President to act .
