PRESIDENT BUHARI APPROVES THE TRANSFER OF NIMC TO THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS AND DIGITAL ECONOMY

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the Transfer of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

The disclosure was made in a press statement from the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy on Monday, August 31, and signed by Uwa Suleiman, the spokesperson to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy.

The statement noted that the President’s directives for NIMC to be under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy is an illustration of his vote of confidence on the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, based on an extraordinary performance.

‘He has, within his first year in office, amongst others, resolved the ICT sector’s decade-long dilemma of Right of Way charges. He was also able to secure Mr President’s approval for the provision of security as well as the designation of Telecommunications Infrastructure as Critical National Infrastructure, regularization of improperly registered SIM cards and deactivation of unregistered ones, the deployment of over 250 digital projects across the country under his policies and supervision as well as built the capacity of over 36,000 Nigerians.’ it read.

#EndSARS: Governor Oyetola suspends curfew in Osun

The governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, has suspended the 24-hour curfew he imposed on the state to tackle the rising violence and damages caused by hoodlums under the #EndSARS protests.

Mr Oyetola in a statement by the secretary of the state government, Wole Oyebamiji, noted the high level of compliance with the 24-hour curfew he had declared to forestall breakdown of law and order.

He said after a review and setting up of a panel of inquiry, the governor decided to lift the curfew.

On the MoU, “The state government has further approved henceforth 100% payment of monthly pensions for retirees earning N30,000 and below while other retirees not in the said category shall be paid 75% of their monthly pensions.

“After reviewing the situation of the last 48 hours and following the inauguration of the State’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, the Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, hereby suspends the 24-hour curfew, effective from today, Friday, October 23, 2020 till further notice.

#EndSARS: Ogun State Governor Abiodun Commiserates with Families of Victims

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commiserated with the families of those who have lost their loved ones and properties in the ENDSARS violence in different parts of the country.

Governor Abiodun in a statement  by his chief press secretary, Kunle Somoorin  expressed displeasure at some of the developments in the early hours of today in the state that despite his appeal for peace on Tuesday such ugly incidence still occured .

He berated the incidents of  burning of Atan Ota police station, killing of the Divisional Crime Officer and one other person, as well as inflicting serious injury on the Divisional Police Office, sporadic gunshots by hoodlums in some  part of the state among  other violent acts.

He therefore called on protesters  to bring the protests to an end and allow for the full implementation of their demands while calling on security agents to exercise caution in dealing with the protesters to avoid further loss of  lives and properties.

The Governor Abiodun who has deployed security personnel to ensure an end to the violence, directed the security team to continue to patrol the major streets to ensure peace and tranquility in the day-to-day activities of citizens.

He however pleaded with all  public and private hospitals to treat all  in need of medical attention brought to their facilities.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Urges Youths to Embrace Peace

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has enjoined protesting youths in the country to give peace a chance as they go about making their legitimate demand.

Obasanjo in a statement on Wednesday, October 21 disclosed that it was with a heavy heart and a deep sense of concern about the going on in the country that he was making the appeal.

In a statement  which was made available to newsmen through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former President advised President Buhari to also restrain the military and other security agencies from using force no matter the level of provocation.

Obasanjo therefore called on the aggrieved youths and the government to embrace dialogue as the  country was at a critical moment now hence the  need for the President to act .
