Trump supports Oracle In a bid to buy Tiktok

Oracle bid for the US operations of TikTok received the backing of US President Donald Trump, strengthening the software maker’s attempt to derail takeover talks led by rival Microsoft.

“Oracle is a great company,” said Trump during a speech in Arizona on Tuesday. “I think its owner is a tremendous guy. He’s a tremendous person. I think that Oracle would be certainly somebody that could handle it.”

Moreover,Oracle has strong ties to Trump, at a time when Silicon Valley is under scrutiny from both sides of the US political divide.

Also, Co-founder Larry Ellison hosted a fundraiser for Trump in February, and Oracle CEO Safra Catz also supports Trump’s re-election effort.

The company also teamed up with the White House earlier this year in an attempt to track the effects of using hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19.

Microsoft has been seen as the front-runner in the race to acquire TikTok US assets, and is the only company to publicly confirm talks with the social media service’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

In addition,Oracle has approached investors including Sequoia Capital to partner on a bid for TikTok’s business in the US,

Canada, Australia and New Zealand, people familiar with the matter said this week.

The latest feat, according to Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, NOSC chairperson, was achieved after several months of being in communication with the Academy as well as visits to Los Angeles.

Anyaene made the confirmation via a press release containing details of the timeline of the committee’s progress.

Recall that in 2019, Lionheart, directed by Genevieve Nnaji, an entry for the international feature film Oscar category, was disqualified because according to the rules for this category, “an international feature film is defined as a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States of America with a predominantly non-English dialogue track.

In the light of the development, NOSC also announced that it will now consider extending the submission deadline which ended at 11:59pm on October 2, 2020. This, according to the press statement, will allow over five filmmakers with Pidgin English films to submit their films.

"Also found worthy of honour was Bashir Abubakar, an Asst Comptroller-General of Customs, who rejected a bribe of $412,000 per container offered him by drug traffickers seeking to bring 40 containers of Tramadol into Nigeria. A fine example of incorruptibility, worthy of emulation"
