Customs Asks For Inter-Agency Collaboration

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Area II Command, Onne Port, Port Harcourt, has restated the need for stronger collaboration with other security outfits to promote better understanding and more competence.

The Command’s Area Controller, Comptroller Aliyu Galadima Saidu, stated this at his meetings with the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Evelyn Peterside; Commandant, Nigerian Navy Training College, Onne, Commodore C. D. Okehie and the Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Eleme Command, Assistant Corps Commander Lilian Nwanne.

Saidu, who praised the collaboration of the Customs Command with the security outfits and other agencies of government in operations and capacity development, reiterated that it is in the best interest of agencies to work together as it is one of the keys to fighting insecurity.

He argued that security agencies’ continued close collaboration, would achieve a win-win situation for all and go a long way in suppressing crimes of criminalities.

“As officers working for Nigeria in the area of security, we are like siblings, children of same parents, who report to the same final authority. In reality, we are members of one family manifesting in different colors because of the division of labor. This personal relationship makes intelligence gathering and sharing very easy. While welcoming you to your new areas of posting, be assured of my support and cooperation on around the clock basis whenever the need arises,” Saidu assured.

Specifically, Saidu lauded the new shooting range at the Naval Training College, saying that it will be of benefit to Customs operatives for retraining on shooting.

He described the facility as relevant to the improvement of maritime security. He advised the cadets be update on security issues.

Okehie acknowledged the importance of Customs in maritime security, saying they have over 119 cadets at the college and that one of their objectives to expose cadets to sister agencies.

He added that the Navy does not work alone as it strives to maintain ties with other security agencies.

In a similar vein, Peterside described the Customs as a sister security agency close to the heart of policing the country and providing security at the ports within. She also assured Saidu of an extension of her predecessors’ cooperation, promising to improve on her predecessor’s mark in the relationship between both agencies.

Also, the Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Eleme Command, Lilian Nwanne, affirmed that the Corps seeks the cooperation of sister agencies to enable them to extend the hands of training their drivers as regards road movement and uses.

Customs: KLT Command Generates N15.7bn in 9 Months

KLT CUSTOMS AREA COMMAND

The Customs Area Controller of KLT Command, Comptroller M.O. Oladunni on Tuesday informed members of the media, that the command had generated fifteen point seven billion naira by the end of September 2020 already surpassing the fifteen point one billion made for the year 2019.

This significant increase was achieved despite the pre and post Covid-19 pandemic effects.

During the media briefing the following seizures were also displayed;
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with 254 cartons of tramadol (100mg) concealed with other drugs.
* 1x 40 ft. laden with used tyres
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with foreign pasta products
* 1x 40 laden with aerosols.
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with tomato ketchup.
* 1x 40 ft. laden with hydro generated oil.
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with foreign bags of rice, condiments and Shawarma bread

With duty paid value of over 229 million naira.
The area controller appreciated all stakeholders for using the KLT Command facilities despite the numerous challenges encountered but urged them to be honest with their declarations in order to enjoy seamless operations at the command.

Customs: Patrol Officers of Kano/Jigawa Area Command Attacked

Officers of Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command’s Roving Team “B” were attacked while returning to the Command Headquarters at about 0445 hours.

This happened along Ringim Axis, Kano-Hadejia Road in Jigawa State on Sunday, 25th October, 2020.

As a result of the attack by armed men, one officer, Inspector of Customs, JD Dadut was shot and killed. Assistant Inspector of Customs, ZR Saleh, also sustained a gunshot injury.

Two AK47s rifles belonging to the deceased and wounded officers were carted away by armed men.

The incident was reported to Divisional Police Station, Ringim, Jigawa State for appropriate action. Meanwhile the wounded officer is responding to treatment at a medical facility.

Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Nasir Ahmed, expressed his sadness over the loss of the hardworking officer, describing the attack as unpatriotic and a distraction from the Command’s resolve to ensure the well-being of Nigerians.

He further charged his men to remain focused on discharging their duties to the nation.
