The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General John Agim, has disclosed that military men attached to the Joint Task Force (JTF) code-named ‘Operation AWATSE’ have arrested 38 suspected petroleum pipeline vandals in Lagos and Ogun states within two months.

Agim while briefing newsmen in Lagos on the activities of the joint taskforce said the team also recovered about 120,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol valued at over N17million from the vandals. He said the suspected pipeline vandals who are members of a secret cult came to Lagos from Igbokoda in Ondo State to vandalize pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that runs from Atlas Cove to Mosimi in Ogun State.

He added that some of the suspected cultists have been handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

“Operation AWATSE is a joint task force under the control of defence headquarters participating in operation 777.”

Osinbajo Visits Kaduna, Commiserates with Victims of Train Attack

Vice president Prof Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday visited Kaduna to sympathize with victims of the attack on Kaduna-Abuja train that occurred on Monday.

Osinbajo when answering questions from newsmen condemned the attack and described the act as evil, adding that such behaviour was sheer manifestation of cowardice. extended his condolence to the families of passengers that lost their lives

The Vice President said such happenings reinforced the need to provide security and surveillance on rail tracks, adding that government had been doing its best.

He promised that rail service would be restored soonest, just as he assured that adequate safety measures will be put in place to avert recurrence of such incident.

Osinbajo commended Kaduna State government for footing the medical bills of those injured, promising that Federal Government would render all necessary support.

EFCC Arrests Another FBI-Wanted Nigerian

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Emmanuel Chidiebere, a suspect wanted in the United States of America by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering.

EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren disclosed this in a statement, on Tuesday in Abuja, that suspect was arrested in his hideout in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State after receiving intelligence reports gathered by a team of operatives, while other three of his accomplices are still at large.

Chidiebere is alleged to have defrauded some victims in America, Cote D’Ivoire and Poland of some undisclosed amount of money and went underground.

Kaduna State Declares 24-hour Curfew in Two LGAs Over Attacks

The Kaduna State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jema’a and Kaura local government areas of the State with immediate effect.

The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made the disclosure on Monday.

According to Aruwan, the curfew was to assist the security agencies stabilize the situation, and restore law and order.

The kaduna state government while appealing to residents to cooperate with the security agencies, condemned the violence and all acts of lawlessness that occurred in the area.
