Nigerian South West Hunters Offers Help to Join Soldiers Against B-Haram

South West Hunters HUNTERS Association of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to involve them in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.

The call was made by the National President of Soludero Hunters Association of Nigeria, Oba Nureni Ajijola Idris Anabi while speaking with Vanguard in an exclusive interview.

The hunters who flaunted local charms said getting rid of the insurgents should not have been this difficult if they had been involved by the federal government.

Oba Ajijola said the incessant attacks on innocent people and soldiers in the North should not be left for the army or security agents alone but should be a combination of the security agents and local hunters.

Making particular reference to the recent attack by the insurgents which recorded heavy casualties on the side of the military, Ajijola maintained that the dimension the attack was assuming was too dangerous.

While acknowledging the significant achievement the President Buhari led administration had made in pushing the insurgents far away, he said more achievements would be recorded if the hunters were empowered with vehicles and other logistics.

He said, “I want to tell you that we have charms that can demobilize armoured tanks and rifles of all kinds. Their weapons will just not work. When invited, we can also give the soldiers some protection that would not make them vulnerable to attacks.”

“President Buhari has done tremendously well in the fight against Book Haram. Except for those who don’t want to face facts, this administration has given hope to ordinary Nigerians. The insecurity issue has been tackled though much still needs to be done”.

“The president should just try us and see if we can help. But, I assure you that Nigerians including the army will see how much we can do. There are still charms that can render weapons of war of the insurgents useless and we will be catching them(Book Haram) like chickens.”

“We sympathise with the soldiers on the unnecessary attacks. The way we can contribute our quota is not only by sympathising with them. That’s why we are calling on the president to include us(south west hunters) in the fight against the insurgents”, be noted.

The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning (FMFBNP) has urged stakeholders in the importation sector of the Nigerian economy to key into the digitalization of Import Duty Exemption Certificate (IDEC), in a bid to eliminate corruption and time wastage, and promote transparency and efficiency in the business environment.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of FMFBNP, Mr. Aliyu Ahmed, at the Customs Training College Auditorium, Ikeja, Lagos, during a one-day sensitization seminar on the “Automated Import Duty Exemption Certificate (IDEC) Processing and Approval,” in her keynote, said that the initiative is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s interest in promoting and sustaining transparency and efficiency in delivering services in the public sector domain and organized private sector.

The minister revealed that the Federal Government approved the automation of the processing of IDEC in November, 2019 and the roll out of the Technology in March, 2020, in order to entrench process efficiency for IDEC administration.

“Approximately N341.94Billion worth of waivers was granted from August 2017 to August 2019. The scope of such request are expanding; hence the need to have in place modern technology to drive it’s administration.

“The kernel of the mandate of the FMFBNP is the overall fiscal management of our national economy. One critical incentive which the FMFBNP provides, in ine with extant laws, rules, regulation and executed international protocols, is the issuance of import/customs duties certificates to applicants”, she said.

The Comptoller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) who was also represented by the Zonal Coordinator zone A, ACG KC Okekezie, stated that the development will promote trade efficiency, eliminate corruption like impersonation through forgery of signature, boost investors confidence, transparency and ease of doing business.

Mrs Okekezie also added that the sensitization will not only bring success to the implementation of the automated IDEC, but will also serve as a testimony of Nigeria’s movement towards an enviable position in trade facilitation.

On his part, the permanent secretary FMFBNP, Mr. Aliyu Ahmed, said that prior to this development, manual processing of IDEC entails receiving and profiling of applications which took approximately 20 – 30 days is now possible within a couple of days as a result of the automation.

He expressed confidence that the new digital process will ensure, “efficiency and transparency with drastic reduction in direct, physical human interfaces.”

“The programme could not have come at a more auspicious time than now when the federal government has been working to ensure ease of servive delivery on all fronts in consonance with the Presidential Executuve Order 1 on promotion of transparency and efficiency in the business environment”, he added.

Mr. Abdulkadir M. Bashir, Deputy Director Tax Policy Division, Tecnnical Services Department, FMFBNP, also gave a detailed presentation on the laws governing import duty exemption processing and approval, and the guidelines for issuing such approval.
