“COWA intends to establish contacts with as many such families as possible, especially those recently bereaved, and extend helping hands to them. Our focus in this regard is to provide educational support and scholarships to the children through paying School fees and vocational empowerment of the bereaved wives to make them self-reliant.” She said.

Other areas mentioned by the COWA National President are training members on family health and wellbeing, skill acquisition, business training and empowerment programmes, providing support to the Wives and Children of fallen Officers, support for orphanages, embarking on a campaign against drug abuse and promoting basic education.

“As a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the spouses and families of Customs officers, COWA works to ensure the attainment of its mandate through various outreach programmes, including the promotion of family values, training, empowerment schemes, as well as regular enlightenment and education of its members,” Kikelomo emphasized.

In her welcome address, the wife of the Acting Comptroller, FOU “A” Hajia Jumoke Ejibunu, congratulated the wife of the Acting CGC on her recent assumption as the National President of COWA.

“I am deeply honoured to receive and welcome the President, Customs Officer’s Wives Association, Mrs Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi and her entourage on their maiden visit to Zone ‘A’. Please permit me to use this unique opportunity to congratulate you once again, Ma, on your assumption of Office as the President of this great Association. May your tenure be crowned with huge success and a source of joy and blessings to all COWA members.” Jumoke said.

According to her, the FOU ‘A’ Chapter of COWA was resuscitated and re-inaugurated in August 2022 with thirty (30) registered active members, including ten (10) Exco members.

She said the membership has increased over time, comprising both active, retired, and widows of junior and senior officers.

Furthermore, she noted that, as of December 2022, the FOU ‘A’ Chapter of COWA embarked on an outreach programme by visiting Old Peoples’ Home in Yaba to show love and affection with the slogan “We Care with Humility.”

“Just a few days ago, there was a free Medical checkup programme that was recently concluded in breast cancer screening, Mammogram test and PAP Smear, Courtesy the Ag. Comptroller, the Medical team in conjunction with AFRI-GLOBAL.”

“The first phase of the programme officially flagged off on the 25th of August, 2023, while the 2nd phase was completed on the 9th of September, 2023. Customs Officers Wives and all female Officers of the Unit benefited from the programme, which was a huge success with a large turnout.” Jumoke revealed.

While thanking the COWA President and her entourage for the visit, she extended her warm regards to the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for the fatherly support given to the association. She assured the National President that the FOU “A” Chapter will continue to raise the flag higher in all endeavours.
