Veteran Ruler Guelleh Re-elected Djibouti Leader For Fifth Term

Djibouti’s veteran ruler Ismail Omar Guelleh was re-elected for a fifth term as president according to provisional results announced early on Saturday.

 

“President Ismail Omar Guelleh obtained 167,535 votes, which is 98.58 percent,” Interior Minister Moumin Ahmed Cheick told public broadcaster RTD early on Saturday, adding that confirmed results would be released soon by the Constitutional Council.

FG Action On Nigerian Traders in Ghana Excites MATAN

The Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN), has expressed delight on the step taken by the Federal Government to address the plight of Nigerian traders in Ghana.

President Muhammadu Buhari, had on Monday directed that a ministerial delegation be sent to Ghana to resolve the lingering conflict between Nigerian traders and Ghanaian authorities, led by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo.

Reacting to the development, the President of MATAN, Jamilu Abbas, in a statement, on Tuesday, said the conflict between Nigerian traders and Ghanaian authorities had lingered for long, hence the need to find a lasting solution to resolve it.

He however advised that Nigerians doing legitimate business in Ghana should be allowed to do their businesses peacefully, as Ghanaians in Nigeria are allowed to go on with their various engagements without any molestation.

Abbas urged the government’s delegation to ensure that the matter was addressed holistically with a view to finally putting it to rest in the interest of both countries.

More than 10 Dead After Shooting at Russian School

Eleven people, including nine children, were killed in a shooting after two unidentified attackers opened fire at a high school in the central Russian city of Kazan, on Tuesday.

Authorities said security had been restored at the school in Kazan, in the mainly Muslim republic of Tatarstan, while investigation is ongoing.

According to reports, 12 children and four adults were being treated in hospital.

Tatarstan President, Rustam Minnikhanov, described the shooting as a disaster and a tragedy.

The shooter has been arrested. He’s 19 and claims to be a registered firearm owner.

President Buhari Sends Delegation to Ghana

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that a Ministerial delegation be sent to Ghana to resolve the lingering conflicts between Nigerian traders and Ghanaian authorities.

Special Assistant, Media to the Minister, Trade and Investment, Ifedayo Sayo, disclosed on Monday.

The delegation to be led by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and other critical stakeholders, will also engage in further dialogue with Ghanaian authorities with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem.

At a meeting convened by the Minister, it was resolved that the delegation should undertake the visit between May 31 and June 1, 2021.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo.
