The President of The National Association Of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, has disclosed that the association might exclude their members currently working in different isolation centres in the country from their ongoing strike.

Yesterday, Okhuaihesuyi noted that all nard members, including those working in isolation centres had been involved in the industrial action, saying the association might consider excluding its members in the frontline from the strike.

He, however, insisted that the strike would continue until the government meets their demands. The Chairman of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Nnamdi Nd-Ezuma, also told newsmen that the isolation centres in the FCT were still functional, noting that there were consultants and other medical doctors who are not members of nard that were attending to the patients.

The doctors are demanding, amongst other things, payment of all salaries arrears, review of the current hazard allowance to 50 per cent of consolidated basic salaries of all health workers and payment of the outstanding Covid-19 allowance especially in state-owned tertiary institutions.

Others are immediate payment of all salary arrears including march salaries for their members in all federal and state tertiary health institutions across the country especially ASUTH, IMSUTH and UNIMEDTH.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians that the US has placed all alcohol-based hand sanitisers, manufactured in neighboring Mexico, on its watch list.

The information is contained in a public alert signed by NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in Abuja on Monday.

According to the alert, the products appear to be in violation of rules from entering the US and that until the agency is able to review the products’ safety they will be on the watch list.

The hand sanitizer Is said to contain Methanol or wood alcohol, a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin and life-threatening when ingested.

The alert said that all persons using these products on their hands were at risk of methanol poisoning.

NAFDAC, however, encouraged health care professionals, consumers and patients to report adverse events related to the use of any hand sanitiser to its nearest office.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said that Kano, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger States have reported confirmed human cases of Avian Influenza H5N1 also called “Bird flu.”

The NCDC Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, made this known Tuesday in Abuja, while providing highlights of the epidemiological situation and response activities in Nigeria.

Ihekweazu said as of March 24, 2021, the seven states reported outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) cases (H5N1) in poultries.

The NCDC boss said official notification about the outbreak had been conveyed to the World Health Organisation (WHO) as required by International Health Regulations (IHR).

Speaking on the response activities, he said the second session of EOC had been conducted with a review of the outbreak situation, response Terms of Reference (TORs) and Incident Actions Plan (IAPs).
