The House of Representatives has adopted a new protocol on budget defence for Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) of Government.

The Speaker of the House Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, said this at the presentation of the 2021 budget estimate to the joint session of the national assembly on Thursday in Abuja.

The speaker said that all Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of MDAs would no longer be allowed to come with their protocol during the budget defence.

Gbajabiamila futher noted that that the budget proposal would receive thorough and speedy consideration, adding that NASS would deliver that met the need and aspiration of the citizenry.

The Speaker stated that the presentation of the 2021 budget by President Muhammadu Buhari was a testament to the beauty of democracy in the country.

He said that NASS came with the promised to start a budget process free of rancour, adding that NASS had since kept to that promise.

53 Arrested Over NYSC Camp Looting Says IGP Adamu

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has said that about 53 persons have been arrested by security operatives in connection with the looting of properties at the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC orientation camp, Kubwa, Abuja.

Adamu stated these in an interview with journalists after an on-the-spot assessment of the Abuja camp in conjunction with the NYSC Director-General, Brig. General Ibrahim Shuaibu, on Friday.

According to him, some of the looters have voluntarily returned some of the items that were stolen.

He also assured that those who looted the camp, stealing kits and other items would be punished accordingly.

CBN Releases Guidelines for N75 Billion Nigeria Youth Investment Fund

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released guidelines for implementation of the proposed N75 billion Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF).

CBN, in a statement by its Development Finance Department, stated that the fund was a built-in strategy to effectively respond to the challenge of youth employment in Nigeria.

The Fund, an initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, is to be managed by NISRAL Microfinance Bank.

“The plan targets young people between 18 and 35 years and details the needed actions required to access the funds.

“The fund aims to financially empower youths to generate at least 500,000 jobs between 2020 and 2023,’’the apex bank said.

Federal Government Re-affirms Support for Okonjo-Iweala as Director General WTO

The Federal Government on Thursday said it would stand by former Minister, Dr. Ngozi -Okonjo- Iweala until she emerged Director General, World Trade Organisation (WTO).

A statement issued by spokesperson, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye said the third and final round of the selection process of the Director-General of the World Trade Organization was concluded on Tuesday, 27th October 2020, and that the result was formally announced on Wednesday, 28th October 2020.

The candidate from Nigeria, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has secured the support of the majority of the member countries but is yet to be declared and returned the winner.

“This is because apart from winning the election, all the 164 Member States of WTO were expected to adopt the winner by consensus, in accordance with the rule of procedure of the WTO,” it said.

The government said it was important to highlight that Dr Okonjo-Iweala had secured cross-regional backing with only the United States opposing the consensus.

“The ministry stated that a meeting of the General Council of the WTO has been scheduled for 9th November, 2020 for the final decision on the election process.

“Nigeria will continue to engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that the lofty aspiration of her candidate to lead the World Trade Organisation is realized,” it said.
