UEFA has informed its member associations that they lost 514 million pounds following the reduction in both television and sponsorship revenues after delays in the knockout stages last season.

The two competitions were suspended in March when the pandemic wreaked havoc on the global sporting calendar and only resumed in August after the top leagues in Europe wrapped up their respective seasons.
The knockout stages were staged behind closed doors at neutral locations and each round’s tie was also reduced to a single fixture instead of the usual home-away format.

Rafael Nadal: The Hungry Clay Master – Abiodun Mohammed

Rafael Nadal is now arguably the greatest of all time in the tennis world after equaling the 20 Grand Slam Men’s singles titles of Roger Federer.

Majestic on clay and fiercely competitive at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal is now arguably the greatest of all time in the tennis world after equaling the 20 Grand Slam Men’s singles titles of Roger Federer.

The Spaniard produced another dominant display in familiar territory, the French Open to sweep away world number one, Novak Djokovic in straight sets victory, the match ended 6-0 6-2 7-5. That victory enabled Nadal to clinch a record extending 13th French Open title.

For a career littered with injuries, one would have expected less but the 2-time Wimbledon Open winner largely remains undeterred by those setbacks and has instead intensified his efforts to bring grist to the mill.

Rafael Nadal who has won the most outdoor titles (84) in the open era excused himself from the US Open due to Coronavirus concerns before competing at Roland Garros with sufficient fire in his belly.

He defeated Egor Gerasimov in the first round before dispatching Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets in the second round. His imperious form continued in the third and fourth round as he outclassed Stefano Travaglia and Sebastian Korda respectively.

At the Quarter final stage, he still had his feet on the gas pedal as Jannik Sinner capitulated to the blistering form of the Spaniard and it was more of the same in the semifinal as Diego Schwartzman couldn’t cope with the firepower of the four-time US Open winner.

At the final, it was expected that Serbia’s Djokovic would make his encounter with Nadal a cliffhanger but it ended up being a straightforward victory for the 34-year-old Spaniard.

The 1.85meter-tall tennis player now has the opportunity of setting a new record by winning one more title to take his tally to 21 Grand Slam titles, one above Federer who is 39 years old.

However, he has to be wary of the ever-resilient Novak Djokovic who has 17-titles in his kitty. The Serb boasts of a record 8 Australian Open titles, 5 Wimbledon titles, 3 US Open titles and 1 French Open title.

At the mention of his name, the Ultimate Fighting Championship reverberates. Israel Adesanya, the man who prides himself as the fighter with lion heart has been relentlessly ruthless in the UFC.

Israel Adesanya whose experience at the hands of high school bullies galvanized his embrace of mixed martial arts burst on to the UFC scene on 11th February, 2018 when he traded tackles with Rob Wilkinson at UFC 221.

The 31-year-old won the bout via Technical Knockout in the second round.

On 13th April, 2019, the Lagos-born fighter defeated Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision to claim the Interim UFC Middleweight Championship. The fight was widely regarded as the best fight of that year.

Later in October of 2019, Adesanya knocked out Robert Whittaker at the second round in a title unification bout at UFC 243 to become the undisputed UFC middleweight champion.

Reaching the summit is difficult but staying at the top could be more herculean. Regardless, “The Last Stylebender” has made crushing his challengers look like another day at the office.

Victories over Yoel Romero last March and a recent triumph over Paulo Costa have not only strengthened Adesanya’s monstrous outlook but his UFC enigma.

The 1.93meter-tall kick-boxer’s record in mixed martial art remains intimidating. He has bagged 20 victories in as many bouts, recording 15 knockouts in the process.

Also, under his belt is an imposing kickboxing record of 75 wins in 80 bouts and the sport of pugilism has also played host to the venomous punches of Adesanya, clinching a record of 5 wins in 6 bouts.

The man who holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu continues to make life difficult for his adversaries in UFC while he keeps expressing his spirit of patriotism by consistently identifying with Nigeria.

In the same vein, he positions himself as a rallying point for Nigerian youths, hoping that many would replicate his fighting spirit in the octagon in their fields of endeavor.
