Troops kill Insurgents in Dozens, Borno State – Boko Haram – The Army yesterday said troops killed 15 Boko Haram terrorists in an encounter at Arege, Borno State.

A statement by the spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, said: “Troops of 7 Brigade, Sector 3 of Multinational Joint Task Force encountered Boko Haram terrorists at Arege, Borno State.

“Fifteen terrorists were neutralised while some fled into the bush with injuries. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“Items recovered include one anti-aircraft gun; five AK-47 rifles; one light machine gun.

“Unfortunately, one soldier was injured and is receiving attention at the military medical facility.”

Troops also rescued a girl abandoned by Boko Haram terrorists who fled on sighting them, Gen. Chukwu added.

According to him, the troops were on clearance operation. He added that three AK-47 riffle magazines, one FN rifle magazine; one suicide vest; one dry cell battery; one 36 hand grenade; two nine volt batteries; one pressure plate; wire for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and two grinding machines were recovered from them.

The Army also arrested 10 people in Biliri and Shongom Local Government Areas of Gombe State after averting a clash over land.

A statement yesterday by Gen. Chukwu said troops immediately mobilised to the troubled spots after receiving information on the crisis.

According to him, those arrested were “believed to be the masterminds of trouble” that would have snowballed into a clash.

He added that items recovered from them were one AK-47 rifle loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition and one G3 rifle, loaded with 21 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition; a double barrel gun; 10 locally-fabricated guns; 39 cartridges; three knives; four knock out bangers and one round of 9mm ammunition.

Bottles of gun powder and assorted charms were also recovered from the suspects.

Osinbajo Visits Kaduna, Commiserates with Victims of Train Attack

Vice president Prof Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday visited Kaduna to sympathize with victims of the attack on Kaduna-Abuja train that occurred on Monday.

Osinbajo when answering questions from newsmen condemned the attack and described the act as evil, adding that such behaviour was sheer manifestation of cowardice. extended his condolence to the families of passengers that lost their lives

The Vice President said such happenings reinforced the need to provide security and surveillance on rail tracks, adding that government had been doing its best.

He promised that rail service would be restored soonest, just as he assured that adequate safety measures will be put in place to avert recurrence of such incident.

Osinbajo commended Kaduna State government for footing the medical bills of those injured, promising that Federal Government would render all necessary support.

EFCC Arrests Another FBI-Wanted Nigerian

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Emmanuel Chidiebere, a suspect wanted in the United States of America by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering.

EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren disclosed this in a statement, on Tuesday in Abuja, that suspect was arrested in his hideout in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State after receiving intelligence reports gathered by a team of operatives, while other three of his accomplices are still at large.

Chidiebere is alleged to have defrauded some victims in America, Cote D’Ivoire and Poland of some undisclosed amount of money and went underground.

Kaduna State Declares 24-hour Curfew in Two LGAs Over Attacks

The Kaduna State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jema’a and Kaura local government areas of the State with immediate effect.

The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made the disclosure on Monday.

According to Aruwan, the curfew was to assist the security agencies stabilize the situation, and restore law and order.

The kaduna state government while appealing to residents to cooperate with the security agencies, condemned the violence and all acts of lawlessness that occurred in the area.
