The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation to safeguard the southwest region.

This renewed collaboration took centre stage on Monday, 17 November 2025, when the newly deployed Brigade Commander (BC), 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi, paid a courtesy visit to Comptroller Shuaibu at the Unit’s headquarters.

Welcoming the GOC, Comptroller Shuaibu emphasised that the visit reinforces the long-standing synergy between both agencies, particularly in areas of border security and coordinated operations.

“This is not the first time I will be meeting the Brigadier General, and under the Office of the National Security Adviser, we have consistently enjoyed a harmonious working relationship. Our operational terrains are often interconnected, especially along strategic border corridors such as Idiroko, where the Army has always provided vital support during joint missions”, he said.

Brigadier General Owolabi explained that the engagement is a routine tradition following a change in military command, designed to strengthen rapport among key security stakeholders. “We are here to acquaint ourselves with each other and sustain the security architecture for the purpose of safeguarding the region.”

He added that continuous cooperation and information sharing remain crucial in addressing evolving security threats. “Just as we must know one another, we will keep building on existing relationships, cooperation and synergy.”

In a related development, Comptroller Shuaibu visited the Western Marine Command to commission four operational boats named after DCG Charles Orbih, ACG Babatunde Olomu, ACG Timi Bomodi and Comptroller Mohammad Shuaibu, who left a significant impact on the Command, underscoring the Service’s resolve to tighten security along Nigeria’s waterways and reinforce its presence in maritime operations.
