The National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, on Thursday, 28 November 2025, led a delegation of the association on a courtesy visit to the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, at the Government House, Lafia. The visit formed part of activities for COWA’s ongoing flagship National Sustainability Project, the COWA Green Border Initiative.

The initiative focuses on mobilising border communities across Nigeria to advance environmental renewal, youth empowerment, improved sanitation, and large-scale tree planting aimed at building climate resilience and promoting sustainable development.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs Adeniyi commended Governor Sule for what she described as his “unwavering and practical support” for national climate-focused interventions. She highlighted his contributions to the Flagship Green Border Sustainability Summit held on 16 October 2025 in Abuja.
“We have seen governors support good causes, but Your Excellency has shown genuine leadership in championing environmental sustainability,” Mrs Adeniyi said. “Your commitment has made a measurable difference in our advocacy, and COWA is here to acknowledge that impact.”

As part of the visit, the COWA President presented Governor Sule with the COWA Green Champions 2025 Award, recognising him as “Nigeria’s Best Climate-Responsive Governor.” The award celebrates public officials whose policies and actions strengthen environmental protection and empower vulnerable communities.
Responding, Governor Sule expressed appreciation for the honour and applauded COWA for spearheading grassroots-driven climate initiatives across the country.
“I am deeply amazed and moved by your commitment to tackling climate change,” Governor Sule said. “You are not the first wife of a customs officer at that level, yet the way you are championing the cause and being committed to protecting the border and protecting the environment itself remain commendable.”
He also emphasised the need for stronger collaborations to address climate-related challenges, noting that environmental sustainability must remain a shared national priority.
