The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has, on Thursday, 11 June 2026, hosted students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dakata, Kano, on an educational excursion aimed at exposing them to the operations of the Service and encouraging greater interest in public service and national development.

The visit, which took place at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, and made available to journalists on Saturday, 13 June, 2026.

Addressing the students, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Usman Adamu, said the Service remains a key institution in Nigeria’s economic and security architecture through its roles in trade facilitation, revenue generation and enforcement of government fiscal policies.

“The Nigeria Customs Service is not only about revenue collection and border security; it is also about building future leaders and fostering a culture of patriotism and national service. We are delighted to host these young students and expose them to the opportunities and responsibilities that come with serving our nation,” he said.

He urged the students to remain focused on their studies, noting that today’s leaders and professionals were once students who benefited from mentorship and guidance.

Speaking on behalf of the school, GGSS Dakata Principal Nusaiba Umar congratulated DC Adamu on his appointment. He described the longstanding relationship between the school and the Command as beneficial to both institutions.

She said the excursion was organised to give the students firsthand knowledge of the responsibilities of the NCS and broaden their understanding of leadership, patriotism and public service.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Zainab Tahir thanked the Command for the warm reception and valuable learning experience, describing the visit as enlightening and inspiring.
