Nigeria Customs Targets Modernized Excise Control to Guard Society

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is doubling down on technology as the primary driver for modernizing excise operations and safeguarding the nation, highlighting field-level tech adoption during a high-profile study tour in Ogun State.
Welcoming a delegation of 15 participants, supervising officers, and directing staff from Junior Course 25 of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, at the Ogun II Area Command Headquarters on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller of Customs, Olusola Akingbade pledged the Command’s full backing to advance the Service’s digital mandate.
”The Command is committed to supporting the study tour,” Comptroller Akingbade declared, assuring participants of total cooperation. She noted that officers are prepared to provide the guidance, information, and operational exposure required to enrich their research.
Comptroller Akingbade urged the visiting officers to actively engage with field personnel and industry stakeholders throughout the exercise, expressing confidence that the insights gained would prepare them for higher responsibilities within the NCS.
Echoing her remarks, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Ibrahim explained that practical exposure across key commands allows officers to evaluate field operations firsthand and develop actionable recommendations to strengthen excise administration and public safety.
The study tour, structured around the theme “Leveraging the Use of Technology as a Tool for Effective Excise Control and Protection of Society,” is designed to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world tactical execution.
The week-long exercise continues through Friday, featuring direct operational visits to excise manufacturing plants and Free Trade Zone (FTZ) enterprises across Ogun State, followed by interactive policy sessions with key industry stakeholders.
