The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Area Command, has identified potential locations to deploy newly procured scanning equipment under the NCS Modernisation Project, following a technical assessment visit to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
This was contained in a statement issued today, Monday, 2 November 2026, by the Command Public Relations Officer, Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Area Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Chikezie Arthur Nwankwo, who said the delegation that undertook the assessment was led by the Acting Comptroller of Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII), Deputy Comptroller Umar Adamu Madugu, accompanied by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Mark Behora.
Speaking during the visit, DC Madugu emphasised the strategic importance of the scanners to trade facilitation, cargo examination and economic development. “The deployment of these scanners will stimulate economic activities and enhance the efficiency of cargo processing within the state,” he said.

Receiving the Customs delegation were the Programmes Director of Aero Alliance, Mac Atasie; the General Manager, Infrastructure, Engineer Jenny Ileka; and the Airport Terminal Manager, Mr Emmanuel Karri, alongside other senior officials. Aero Alliance is the company leading the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport.
The airport officials led the Customs delegation on an inspection of the domestic wing and the under-construction international wing. The team assessed potential scanner locations in both wings to determine their suitability for deployment, a move expected to enhance cargo examination, facilitate legitimate trade, improve revenue generation, and reduce traffic congestion associated with cargo movement and clearance.
Stakeholders expressed optimism about the initiative, particularly its potential to improve operational efficiency, strengthen trade facilitation and stimulate economic activities across the region.
The Acting Customs Area Controller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his commitment to the modernisation of the Service through technology-driven initiatives. “We are confident that the deployment of these scanners in Enugu will be put to effective use, and the Command will provide the necessary support to ensure their successful implementation,” he said.
The initiative underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to modernising its operations, strengthening compliance and improving service delivery in line with its mandate to facilitate trade and boost revenue generation.
