Customs Prioritises Revenue Generation, Assures Stakeholders of Trade Facilitation

By Ele Wada

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Area Command, has reaffirmed revenue generation and trade facilitation as its top priority while pledging to address operational challenges affecting trade and the movement of consignments.

Mark Behora, the Acting Customs Area Controller of the command, gave the assurance on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, during a stakeholders’ engagement with bonded terminal owners and managers, excise traders and other operators within the Command’s area of responsibility.

Behora said revenue collection must go hand in hand with trade facilitation, compliance, and operational efficiency, assuring stakeholders that the Command would promote transparent, lawful trade processes without unnecessary delays for compliant businesses.

He acknowledged concerns raised by bonded terminal operators over delays in processing transire documents at some mother ports, which have affected the movement of consignments to the Command. He said the Command would explore practical solutions within established operational procedures.

The Acting Customs Area Controller also urged affected terminal operators to resolve outstanding issues with the Special Task Force on Transires (STFT), stressing the need for prompt action to restore normal operations.

In their response, bonded terminal owners and managers appealed to Behora to use his office to address persistent delays in processing transire documents, noting their impact on the timely movement of consignments.

Excise traders, however, expressed satisfaction with the Command’s operations, commending the level of cooperation and pledging continued support towards meeting and surpassing the Service’s revenue targets.
