In the run-up to the 2026 Basic Course Programme, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) held an induction workshop for resource persons and instructors at the Customs Training College Ikeja on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
To prepare trainers for the upcoming recruit training and ensure prospective Customs officers receive effective, comprehensive instruction, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Frank Onyeka of the Human Resource Development Department, stressed the importance of teamwork and collaboration among the resource persons.
“We’re going to work as a team. Nobody has monopoly of knowledge, that’s why we have brought people. We’re going to do this for the good of the service, because we need to bring out the best of Customs officers that we’re going to be proud of,” he said.
He said the service is determined to produce officers who will uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity, in line with the reform agenda of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
Also speaking, the Retreat Coordinator, DCG Greg Itotoh (Rtd), said preparations for the 2026 Basic Course Programme had reached an advanced stage.
“So, as we speak, we have training materials in about 19 subject areas and information that will be required to run the 2026 Basic Course programme. And I think we are all together prepared to face the task ahead of us,” Itotoh added.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Commandant of the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Deputy Comptroller of Patience Ita, described the retreat as the first of its kind. She said the workshop was important in setting the tone for the training programme and urged the trainers to approach their responsibilities with an open mind.
