The Edo/Delta Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Army to combat smuggling, tackle trans-border crimes and address security challenges across Delta State.

The commitment was underscored during an engagement between the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Dominic Ortsen, and the Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Ibrahim Buhari, in Asaba on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.

Ortsen expressed appreciation for the existing relationship between both agencies, emphasising the importance of sustained collaboration, mutual understanding and effective information sharing in safeguarding national security and protecting the nation’s borders.

He said, “The Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Army share critical responsibilities in safeguarding national security, protecting the nation’s borders and promoting economic stability. Sustained collaboration, mutual understanding and effective information sharing are essential to achieving these objectives.”

In his response, Buhari, who also serves as Sector Commander of Operation DELTA SAFE, highlighted the importance of building direct relationships among officers of both agencies to improve communication and operational coordination.

He encouraged Customs to leverage the Army’s operational presence and manpower in addressing security challenges, assuring the delegation of the Army’s readiness to provide support when necessary. He said, “Both agencies serve the same nation and government, and our shared responsibility for national security makes cooperation indispensable.”

The Brigade Commander further urged officers to maintain regular contact and exchange operational information where appropriate to facilitate coordinated responses to security threats.
