‘Heroes of the Force’ IGP commiserates with families of slain police officers
IGP Ibrahim Idris commiserates with the families of slain police officers, ‘Heroes of the Force’ who were ambushed and killed last Sunday in a gun duel between the IG’s Intelligence Response Team (IG-IRT) personnel and gangs of bandits and kidnappers in Rigasa forest, Kaduna State.
The Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Jimoh Moshood, in a statement yesterday said the officers were killed while returning after a successful operation that led to the arrest of some notorious kidnap-for-ransom suspects responsible for the kidnap of Sheikh Ahmad Adam Algarkawy in Rigasa area of the state who regained his freedom recently.
The IGP Ibrahim Idris commiserates and mourns the unfortunate death of the deceased Police officers and describes them as ‘Heroes of the Force’ who paid the supreme price to ensure protection of lives and property as well as law and order in the country,” Moshood stated.
He said the “team leader and other personnel of the IG-IRT repelled the attack and killed six of the bandits but unfortunately, lost four gallant and committed police officers in the process.”
He also said caches of firearms and ammunition were recovered from the bandits’ hideouts in Rigasa forest. Read Also;

Moshood said the IG has directed that befitting burials be held for the deceased officers as well as prompt processing and payments of the life assurance benefits and other entitlements to their families.
He listed the ‘Heroes of the Force’ to include Inspector Bernard Odibo, Inspector Mamman Abubakar, Inspector Haruna Ibrahim and Sergeant Emmanuel Istifanus.
The Force PRO also said a massive raids and assaults on the other bandits still at large in the Rigasa forest are ongoing to bring them to justice.
He assured Nigerians that the Force, despite the unfortunate attack and killings of the policemen, would not relent in ensuring that crimes are brought to the barest level in the country.

A Turkish court has sentenced Kurdish former lawmaker, Leyla Guven to more than 22 years in jail on terror-related charges.
Leyla Guven, who was stripped of her parliamentary immunity in June, was convicted of membership of a “terror group” and disseminating “terror propaganda” for outlawed Kurdish armed groups.

On Monday, Guven was given 14 years and three months in jail on a charge of membership of a “terrorist organization” and an additional eight years for two separate charges of disseminating “terrorist propaganda”.
Guven was not present at the court hearing in the predominantly Kurdish southeastern city of Diyarbakir, and her whereabouts were not immediately clear.
The court however, ordered Guven’s immediate arrest.

Burundi’s Former President Pierre Buyoya, has died at age 71.
Buyoya served as President twice, from 1987-1993 and then 1996-2003.
His death comes three weeks after his resignation from the position of the high representative of the African Union for Mali and the Sahel region.

Announcing his resignation, Buyoya said he needed time to focus on legal battles back home, following his trial in absentia and sentencing to life in prison.
Burundi’s top court sentenced Buyoya to life imprisonment in late October 2020, for alleged assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye who had won the 1993 elections.
