Nigeria Customs Service Trains Officers on Tech-Enabled Excise Control

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its commitment to deploying technology to strengthen excise administration and safeguard society, as participants of Junior Course 25 of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, commenced an operational study tour at the Kaduna Area Command.
Speaking during the visit, the Commandant of the NCCSC, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Dow Gaura, said the study tour aligns with the Service’s drive to leverage technology to enhance excise control and regulatory oversight.
Gaura, who led a delegation of 17 participants, supervising officers and directing staff to the Command, explained that the exercise forms a critical component of the Junior Course curriculum, providing students with practical exposure to Customs operations and excise management.
According to him, the theme of this year’s study tour, “Leveraging the Use of Technology as a Tool for Effective Excise Control and Protection of Society,” reflects the Nigeria Customs Service’s determination to embrace innovation in addressing emerging challenges within the excise ecosystem.
He noted that the exercise would enable participants to assess operational procedures, evaluate current practices, and develop recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of excise administration nationwide.
“The study tour is designed to expose students to field operations in selected Customs Commands. It provides an opportunity for participants to observe operational realities and generate practical recommendations based on their findings,” Gaura said.
Receiving the delegation, the Customs Area Controller, Kaduna Command, Comptroller Sa’ad Hassan, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and professional capacity within the Service.
He encouraged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity by engaging actively with officers and stakeholders, stressing that the knowledge gained would contribute to their professional development and prepare them for greater responsibilities within the Service.
