KLT Customs Strengthens Revenue Drive, Halts Smuggling of Expired Vapes

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirirkiri Lighter Terminal Area Command has strengthened its revenue drive and enforcement operations, generating ₦19.4 billion in the month of June 2026 and intercepting a container of expired disposable vape products worth ₦809 million.
Addressing journalists at the command on Thursday, 30 July 2026, the acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Bolaji Adigun stated that the command recorded ₦19,404,925,103 in June 2026, representing an increase over the ₦14, 363,621,664.35 collected in June 2025.
“This achievement reflects the dedication of officers and men of the Command, improved stakeholder compliance, enhanced trade facilitation, and the deployment of intelligence-driven strategies,” DC Adigun stated.
Highlighting the Command’s enforcement activities, the Ag. CAC disclosed that officers intercepted a 40-foot container, laden with expired disposable vape products ranging from 2022 to 2026. He said the products, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦809,698,761, were unfit for use and posed serious risks to public health.
“The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command will continue to deploy intelligence-driven operations, effective risk management and stringent cargo examination procedures to detect and intercept expired, falsely declared, prohibited, and other non-compliant goods while contributing to national economic growth, public health, and security,” he warned.
In line with established procedures, the consignment was handed over to representative of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Receiving the seizure, the Assistant Director, Port Health, NAFDAC, Dr Peter Anzaku, described the operation as a joint success between both government agencies.
“Our target is public health and as a regulatory officer, I have no choice but to work with Customs. Together, we will make sure that whatever comes into the country is well regulated so that public health can be sustained to the optimum best,” he said.
