The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), North-Eastern Marine (NEM), has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to enhance border security and support national development.

According to a press release issued on Monday, 15 June 2026, by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs Peter Longmen, the Acting Comptroller NEM, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Joseph Ikewun, made the commitment during an official visit to the Comptroller of Immigration, Benue State Command, Grace Nkangwung.
During the visit, Deputy Comptroller Ikewun expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded his team and described the relationship between the NCS and the NIS as a longstanding partnership built on mutual respect, shared responsibilities and a common commitment to national security.
He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration in intelligence gathering, information exchange and joint operations aimed at identifying and cracking down on criminal elements operating within and around border communities.
“We must continue to work hand in hand to address emerging security threats and safeguard Nigeria’s borders effectively,” he said.
Ikewun also commended the NIS for its ongoing modernisation initiatives, emphasising the deployment of digital solutions such as the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC), e-Contact, e-Landing and e-Exit platforms. “These innovations have significantly simplified immigration processes, enhanced transparency, and facilitated service delivery,” he noted.

He further stressed that both agencies require teamwork to successfully carry out their respective mandates and reaffirmed the readiness of the NCS to participate in joint patrols and other collaborative security measures.
Responding, the Comptroller of the NIS commended the visit and reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the NCS in the interest of national security, trade facilitation, and effective border management.
