The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Ports & Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Command, has called on the public to embrace and support eco-friendly initiatives to address the growing impact of climate change.

The Chairperson of COWA PTML, Mrs Caroline Anani, made this appeal on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, during a workshop organised to sensitise stakeholders on effective waste management practices.

Mrs Anani emphasised that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility that requires collective action rather than individual effort.

“Our planet faces significant challenges such as plastic pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss. We’re not just spectators of these challenges, but part of the solution. Through simple actions like reducing plastic use, conserving energy, and supporting eco-friendly initiatives, we can make a difference”, she said.

She also commended the National President of COWA, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, for championing the Green Border Initiative, while stressing the importance of educating younger generations on sustainable practices that protect the environment.

Earlier, the Customs Area Controller of PTML Command, Comptroller Joe Anani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to promoting environmentally friendly policies, particularly in facilitating the clearance of electric and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicles in line with federal government directives.

“With what our COWA will be doing today, we are taking steps further to support tree planting, growing flowers around our work and habitable spaces while also promoting practices that encourage the recycling of single-use plastics”, he said.

The workshop also featured presentations by resource persons, and the association donated recycling collectors as part of its continued commitment to fostering an eco-friendly, sustainable environment.
