The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a reputation management training for its officers to strengthen professionalism, ethical conduct and public confidence in the Service.
According to a statement issued to newsmen and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Abdulmalik Akintola, on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, the training, held at the Command Headquarters, aimed to improve the institutional image and promote positive engagement between Customs officers and the public.
Speaking at the opening session, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Wale Adewole, described the initiative as timely, noting that it aligns with the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
He said the reputation management programme was designed to reshape public perception and address negative narratives surrounding the Nigeria Customs Service.
“Reputation management is a collective responsibility. The way we conduct ourselves, both on and off duty, directly affects how the Service is perceived,” Adewole said.
The Acting Area Controller urged officers to consistently uphold the core values of integrity, transparency, professionalism and discipline, stressing that positive conduct remains the most effective way to earn public trust and confidence.
The training also featured interactive sessions focusing on personal conduct, ethical behaviour, effective communication with stakeholders, and the impact of individual actions on the Service’s corporate image.
“Officers were encouraged to see themselves as ambassadors of the Nigeria Customs Service at all times,” it said.
Participants were also sensitised on the importance of aligning personal behaviour with institutional values, particularly in an era of heightened public scrutiny and digital media influence.
