Customs Boosts Interagency Cooperation Ahead of Hajj Operations in Borno State

The Nigeria Customs Service(NCS), Borno Yobe Area Command, has strengthened inter-agency cooperation ahead of the forthcoming Hajj operations through a strategic engagement with the Borno State Hajj Commission.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Ubali on Monday, 19 January 2026, the engagement is part of efforts to deepen institutional cooperation and ensure hitch-free Hajj operations in the state.

He stated that the courtesy visit, which took place at the Customs House, Maiduguri, was aimed at enhancing collaboration to ensure the smooth facilitation of Hajj-related activities, particularly the clearance of pilgrims’ goods and services.

Speaking during the engagement, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abdullahi Idris, emphasised the importance of sustained synergy between the NCS and relevant stakeholders in achieving efficient Hajj operations. He said effective cooperation remains critical to ensuring seamless customs processes that support pilgrims while safeguarding national security and trade regulations.

“Our focus is to ensure that all Hajj-related consignments are processed efficiently and in line with extant customs laws and procedures, while maintaining the highest standards of security,” the Comptroller said.

Earlier, the delegation from the Borno State Hajj Commission, led by its Executive Chairman, Professor Yakubu Musa, commended the Area Controller for his leadership and proactive approach. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the NCS to ensure hitch-free Hajj operations in the state.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss operational challenges and strategies to improve trade facilitation, security screening, and the timely clearance of pilgrims’ consignments.
