The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to continuous capacity building for media stakeholders as part of efforts to ensure clearer communication and improved service delivery.

The assurance was given at the end-of-year media parley held in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, 19 December 2025. Speaking at the event, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Abdullahi Maiwada, emphasised the importance of keeping media professionals abreast of ongoing reforms and developments within the Service.

“There are so many transformations within the Service, and I believe it is important that those who cover this sector are always carried along in everything that we do,” he said.

DC Maiwada noted that training would be prioritised under the Service’s forthcoming strategic communication framework to enhance professionalism and value within the sector.

“In our 2026 strategic communication plan, we will make sure that we address the issue of training in different clusters. This is part of our effort to ensure clarity in NCS reportage,” he added.

He further emphasised that, as communication strategists, the media play a critical role in ensuring message clarity, which in turn helps to build public trust in Customs operations.

The engagement featured an interactive session during which participants shared challenges, successes and diverse perspectives aimed at promoting national economic growth and development. It also provided a platform for networking, relaxation and renewed energy ahead of the coming year.
