ACG Daniyan Commends Lagos FTZ Command, Urges Discipline, Regulatory Compliance

The Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG) in charge of Excise, Free Trade Zones and Industrial Incentives, Tenny Daniyan, has commended the Lagos Free Trade Zone Command for its progress in key operational areas.

ACG Daniyan gave the commendation during a working visit to the Command on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, where he praised the leadership of the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Hauwa Abubakar.

In her briefing, Comptroller Abubakar highlighted notable achievements recorded since she assumed office in April 2025, stating that the Command has strengthened stakeholder engagement, deepened relationships with traditional institutions, improved infrastructure and prioritised officers’ welfare.

“The collective efforts have continued to reflect positively on the overall performance of the Command. Our revenue performance has shown steady good compliance culture among operators, while stakeholders and investors now express deeper trust in the Command’s leadership and operational process,” she said.

She also announced a significant rise in revenue generated by the Command, noting, “At the end of november 2025, the total revenue generated by the command is put at ₦661,545,608,365, Surpassing the sum of ₦311,499,311, generated same period last year.”

In his remarks, ACG Daniyan underscored the importance of discipline, vision and regulatory compliance for effective operations across Nigeria’s free trade zones. He encouraged officers to deepen their knowledge of guidelines governing the zone.

“I want to implore all of us to be conversant with the zone, all the governing authorities’ manuals, regulations, and guidelines,” he said. “Knowledge is power, and you should be able to make impact in your environment; if not, you will be a push-around.”

After a tour of enterprises within the zone, the ACG expressed satisfaction with the development and potential of the free trade zone concept, while calling on operators to consistently uphold regulatory standards.

“We only have to encourage our Nigerian stakeholders to do the right thing, to follow guidelines and follow regulations. The government has really done well by introducing the free trade zone concept, which is to generate revenue for the nation and bring prosperity to the people.”

He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to strengthening efficiency, compliance and investor confidence across free trade zones nationwide.
