The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting and empowering families living along Nigeria’s border corridors, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to sustainable and innovative programmes.

Speaking at the launch of the Green Border Initiative Ceremony at Idiroko on Monday, 10 November 2025, the National President of COWA, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, described the event as a tangible expression of COWA’s vision for women empowerment.

“We are not just planting trees or cleaning; we are igniting a movement of hope, responsibility, and transformation that connects our people, our borders, and our planet,” she said.

Mrs Adeniyi further explained that the event builds on the COWA Green Border Sustainability Initiative Summit previously held in Abuja, which continues to serve as a hub for climate education, women’s empowerment, innovation, and sustainability research.

In her address, the Chairperson of COWA Ogun I Command, Mrs Fausat Otunla, appreciated the National President for championing such an innovative programme. “We are inspired by our leader’s campaign and appreciate her guidance and continuous support for COWA activities nationwide. I also want to commend my husband, the CAC, and his management team for their unwavering support for women’s empowerment,” she said.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, described the event as a platform to promote the welfare of communities along border corridors. “The Green Border Initiative aligns with global and national calls for environmental responsibility. Here at Ogun I Command, we are committed to balancing trade facilitation, border security, and environmental preservation,” he noted.

The ceremony also featured goodwill messages from sister agencies. The COWA National President personally planted trees in support of the initiative, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
