The National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, together with the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has inaugurated the newly established COWA Secretariat in Kebbi State.
The ceremony, held on Friday, 29 August 2025, at the Nigeria Customs Service Kebbi Area Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, marked a milestone in COWA’s activities within the state. After the commissioning, Mrs Adeniyi and Hajiya Nafisa distributed relief items, including food and writing materials, to orphans and widows of fallen Customs officers—underscoring COWA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of both the Customs family and the wider community.
In her remarks, Mrs Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Service’s management team for their steadfast support.
“Since our inception in 2023, COWA has worked tirelessly to provide a platform for Customs officers’ wives to support one another and positively impact our communities,” she said. “This Secretariat is a testament to the dedication of our Kebbi members, particularly the Chairperson, whose decision to extend support to orphanages reflects the compassion and empathy that define our Association.”
She highlighted COWA’s achievements, including skills acquisition workshops, entrepreneurship training, financial literacy seminars, outreach to widows and orphanages, and capacity-building initiatives for members.
“As we progress, we are committed to building on this progress and exploring new ways to support our members and communities. I urge all members to continue working together to make a meaningful difference,” she added.
Welcoming the delegation, the Governor’s wife reaffirmed her commitment to supporting orphans and widows in line with the administration’s social welfare agenda, while wishing the visitors a safe return.
In his opening remarks, Comptroller Chidi Nwokorie of Kebbi Command stressed the event’s significance. He noted that no COWA activities had been held in the state since creating the Kebbi Area Command in 2019, following its separation from the Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Command. He attributed the success of this initiative to the support and leadership of the current Comptroller-General.
