The Zonal Coordinator for Zone C, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG) Sambo Dangaladima, led the 2025 International Customs Day (ICD) commemorated at the Zonal Headquarters in Port Harcourt on 27 January 2025.

Dangaladima highlighted the significance of the year’s ICD theme, “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity,” noting that it encapsulates the crucial role of customs administrations worldwide in shaping a shared future. He lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, as a prime example of leadership and innovation in advancing this mission.

In his remarks, Dangaladima stated, “Customs is no longer merely about managing borders; it involves creating seamless pathways for trade, fostering security in a rapidly evolving world, and paving the way for economic growth and prosperity. This responsibility demands innovation, collaboration, and, above all, unwavering commitment.”

Expanding on the pillars of efficiency, security, and prosperity, Dangaladima explained that customs administrations globally are addressing emerging challenges through digital transformation. He pointed to technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics as tools now actively used to reduce bottlenecks, enhance transparency, and ensure faster and more reliable movement of goods.

On security, he underscored the importance of advanced risk management systems in identifying threats before they materialise. He highlighted how international partnerships, information sharing, and joint operations bolster the Service’s ability to protect borders while maintaining the integrity of the supply chain.

“By ensuring safe and secure trade, we not only safeguard our nations but also uphold the stability and fairness that underpin global prosperity,” he said.

Discussing prosperity, Dangaladima emphasised the role of Customs as a bridge between nations, facilitating equitable trade relationships and enabling developing economies to thrive alongside more established ones.

He commended CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for exemplifying the values of innovation and leadership and urged officers to remain steadfast in their commitment.

“By delivering on our promises, we not only uphold the ideals of this year’s theme but also contribute to a future where borders unite rather than divide and where trade serves as a bridge to shared prosperity,” he concluded.
