The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Katsina Area Command has expanded its reach beyond traditional duties by providing free medical services and educational materials to pupils of Hassan Usman Katsina Primary School.
In a press statement issued on 11 December 2024 by the Command’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs Bello Isah, stated that the initiative was unveiled by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Abba-Aji Idris.
The free medical services offered at the Customs clinic would provide timely healthcare to students, while the educational materials—such as exercise books, whiteboards, pens, and pencils—are designed to improve the learning environment.
“We recognise the importance of delivering quality education and healthcare to our young ones. Through these services, we hope to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of the community,” Comptroller Idris stated.
He emphasised that the initiative is part of the NCS’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and highlights the Command’s dedication to efficient healthcare delivery in Katsina State.
While Thanking the Comptroller-General of (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for their support, Comptroller Idris underscored the importance of educating pupils about the dangers of smuggling and its detrimental impact on the national economy. “These children are the future of our nation. We want them to understand the role of Customs and the significance of safeguarding the nation’s economy,” he said.
Receiving the educational materials on behalf of the school, the Katsina State Local Government Education Secretary, Dr Halima Umar, expressed profound gratitude to the Nigeria Customs Service for the initiative. She noted that the free medical services and educational materials would greatly benefit the students and their families.
