Nigeria Customs Honours Retiring Comptroller Egwakhide

The Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, honoured retiring Comptroller Josephine Egwakhide of the Budget Unit under the Department of Finance, Administration and Technical Services in recognition of her years of dedicated service to the nation.
The send-off ceremony brought together senior officers, colleagues, and well-wishers who celebrated her contributions and commitment after 35 years in service.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, DCG Kikelomo Adeola, congratulated the retiring officer and described her as an astute and impactful officer whose contributions would remain part of the Service’s history.
“Whatever you have done, people have seen it, and it will remain part of history. It is not out of place to celebrate you,” she said.
DCG Adeola commended Comptroller Egwakhide’s leadership qualities and her ability to coordinate officers effectively, urging her not to withdraw from impacting lives after retirement.
“Continue to mentor the younger generation and those around you. Do not go home and relax; continue to contribute meaningfully to society,” she added.
Also speaking on behalf of officers of the Department, the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Finance and Administration, Idris Abba-Aji, said retirement should not be viewed negatively but as the completion of a successful career worthy of celebration.
“We celebrate her today as she exits the Service after 35 years of meritorious service,” he stated.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of a commemorative card and plaque to the retiring Comptroller in appreciation of her service and dedication.
In her response, Comptroller Josephine Egwakhide expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Customs Service and officers she worked with throughout her career for their support and encouragement.
“The Service has shaped my life. I have worked with many officers, but those in the Budget Unit hold a special place in my heart,” she said.
She appreciated the Comptroller-General of Customs for his guidance and confidence in her abilities and urged colleagues to sustain the bond and relationships built over the years.
The ceremony ended with goodwill messages and tributes celebrating her professionalism, mentorship, and contributions to the Service.
