The Zonal Coordinator of Zone ‘B’, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Nsikan Umoh, has directed Customs Area Controllers under the zone to tighten operational controls, strengthen border surveillance and improve revenue performance as the Nigeria Customs Service begins its 2026 operations.

She gave the directive on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, at the Zone ‘B’ operational review meeting held at the Abdullahi Dikko Inde Conference Hall, Headquarters of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command.
ACG Umoh said the meeting was convened in line with the Service’s standing protocol, which requires Zonal Coordinators to hold periodic performance reviews. She noted that although such engagements are administratively provided for, this was the first comprehensive zonal review meeting in the zone in about ten years.

“This platform allows us to assess our performance across revenue generation, trade facilitation and border security. Commands must present clear operational reports, identify gaps and propose practical solutions to improve service delivery,” she said.
She stressed the need to block operational loopholes, strengthen standard operating procedures and enhance coordination among Commands to achieve measurable results.
Redirecting discussions to border governance, she said, “Our responsibility is to secure the borders while ensuring that legitimate trade is not hindered.”

ACG Umoh also emphasised the importance of sustaining positive relationships with host communities through effective Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, noting that community cooperation enhances operational success.
In his remarks, the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, who hosted the meeting, described the session as strategic for both the Command and the zone.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs anchored on Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation.
“Collaboration remains central to our operations, particularly in our engagement with stakeholders and the business community,” DC Adamu said.
He disclosed that the Command exceeded its 2025 revenue target by 5.71 percent, attributing the achievement to improved stakeholder engagement and disciplined enforcement.
“That performance demonstrates that our strategies are yielding results,” he added.
