The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, at the Customs House, Maitama, Abuja, made another historic mark as he decorated the immediate past Spokesperson of the Agency, Timi Bomodi, to the rank of Deputy Comptroller General of Customs and the current National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, who has now attained the rank of Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC).

CGC Adeniyi, the longest-serving National PRO in the history of the Service, having held the role from 2001 to 2016, was joined by the newly decorated Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Enforcement, Inspection, and Investigation, DCG Timi Bomodi, to perform the ceremony.

Recall that the Service had, on Thursday, 27 November 2025, conducted a major decoration exercise during which several senior officers were elevated and admitted into the management cadre.
Speaking during Thursday’s decoration ceremony, CGC Adeniyi, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, reaffirmed the importance of professionalism, integrity, loyalty and continuous learning for officers responsible for managing the Service’s image.

He said, “As public relations officers, you are often the first and last line of communication between the Service and the public. The values you uphold shape the trust we enjoy as an institution.”
He described the progression of two successive spokespersons into higher leadership as “a strong testament to the growing professionalism within the Corps.”
Tuesday’s ceremony, however, carried a distinct sentimental weight within the public relations community, given the lineage of the Service’s image makers involved.
Expressing his gratitude, DC Maiwada thanked the CGC and the management team for the confidence reposed in him, describing the new rank as a call to deeper responsibility.
He emphasised, “This promotion strengthens my resolve to serve the Service with even greater commitment. I dedicate this rank to the hardworking officers and men of the Public Relations Unit whose support continues to inspire me.”
He added, “It is also a morale booster, and I assure the Service that we will not relent in projecting its reforms and achievements with clarity and integrity.”
The ceremony was attended by senior officers from various departments and the Public Relations Units.
