The Customs Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working closely with traditional rulers to strengthen security along the nation’s southwestern waterways.

Comptroller Ntadi made this known during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
The visit, he explained, was aimed at deepening collaboration with traditional institutions and building on the legacy of his predecessors.
Speaking during the visit, the Area Controller noted the vital role traditional rulers play in promoting peace and supporting law enforcement efforts within their domains.
“Knowing the position of traditional rulers, this just engagement is important because they are more rooted at the grassroots. We know the effect of smuggling and illicit trade on the economy, and we believe traditional rulers can use their influence to discourage such activities”, Ntadi said.
Responding on behalf of the monarch, the Oluipetoji of Badagry Kingdom, Chief Abel Ogunbiyi, commended the Comptroller’s leadership and longstanding relationship with the Badagry community.
“Comptroller Ntadi is a son of the soil. He has served here since his early years in the Service and has consistently advised our youths to shun smuggling and embrace legitimate trade. We are proud to see him back as Area Controller, committed to securing our waterways”, Ogunbiyi said.
Community stakeholders also lauded Comptroller Ntadi’s proactive leadership and reaffirmed their readiness to support the Western Marine Command’s operations in safeguarding the coastal corridor.
