The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) has commissioned a new secretariat at the Kaduna Command Headquarters on Friday, 22 August 2025, and launched a medical outreach to support officers’ families and the host community.

The day began with a closed-door meeting between the COWA National President, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, her executives, the Kaduna Chapter Chairperson, Hajiya Fadila Abe, and members, before the public ceremony at Zone ‘B’ Headquarters.

As part of the outreach, patients received hypertension medication and 100 blood-pressure monitors to promote preventive care. Wheelchairs and crutches were also donated for distribution within the Customs community and beyond.

The initiative further included empowerment programmes for widows and donated 100 back-to-school kits to Nigeria Customs Nursery and Primary School pupils. Guests were entertained by a student’s spoken-word performance, while speakers highlighted plans to revitalise the Nigeria Customs Service Secondary School.

In her keynote address, Mrs Adeniyi commended the Kaduna Chapter for its commitment and reaffirmed COWA’s focus on health, education, and empowerment. She described members as “not just wives and mothers, but change-makers, entrepreneurs, and leaders,” and urged them to sustain their impact on Customs families and host communities.

Welcoming the National President, Hajiya Abe described the occasion as a “significant milestone,” noting that the new Secretariat would serve as both an administrative hub and a unifying centre. She added that the outreach had “rekindled hope and strengthened bonds between Customs families and host communities.”

With commissioning the Secretariat and rollout of welfare initiatives, COWA reaffirmed its mission to support Customs families while extending health, educational, and empowerment programmes to neighbouring communities.
