The Customs Area Controller in charge of the Murtala Muhammad Airport Command (MMAC), Comptroller Michael Awe, has stated that the Command has established a continuous sporting legacy that serves as a unifying tool among stakeholders.

He made this known during a novelty football match between Team Customs MMAC and the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), MMAC Chapter, held at Ikeja on Thursday, 25 September 2025.

According to the CAC, the initiative goes beyond recreation, fostering both fitness and stronger bonds within the Customs community and its stakeholders.

“The sustained competition will not only revitalise officers’ health but also ensure unity among critical stakeholders. Last week, we commissioned our basketball court, and today we are having a competition between Nigeria Customs and freight forwarders,” he said.

He further assured that the programme would remain an ongoing feature of the command’s activities.

“The purpose is not just for fitness but continuous unity among us. Today, I assure you that in this Command, every Thursday, our pitch will always be busy. As we have Team Customs playing today, another will give us an exciting experience next week,” he added.

In his remarks, the Chairman of ANLCA MMAC, Hon. Bola Asiru-Balogun, commended the Area Controller for his vision and commitment to developing capacity through sports. “Getting out the potentials of our men is one thing Comptroller Awe has been able to achieve. As he has said, the programme has come to stay and we will always sustain it,” he said.

The novelty match ended dramatically in a penalty shootout, giving the visiting team the victory.
