The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ondo/Ekiti Area Command, and the Nigeria Police Force have pledged to deepen their collaboration through intelligence sharing and joint personnel training.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Herbert Dzungwenen, on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, the renewed commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Morenikeji Bewaji, at the Command’s headquarters in Akure on Monday, 21 July.

Comptroller Bewaji warmly welcomed the visit, describing it as a significant step towards nation-building and enhanced operational synergy between security agencies.

“It would be an understatement to say I am delighted to host CP Lawal. Discussions on economic stability are incomplete without acknowledging the critical roles played by both the Police and Customs,” she stated.

Emphasising the importance of inter-agency collaboration, CP Lawal noted that the Customs Service plays a vital role in national security by safeguarding the nation’s economic gateways. He stressed that cooperation must define the relationship between the two institutions.

Both agency heads agreed to institutionalise joint training programmes and intelligence sharing to strengthen their cordial relationship.
