The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to enhancing trade facilitation and operational efficiency during a working visit to the Oyo/Osun Area Command in Ibadan on Tuesday, 10 June 2025.
A key highlight of the visit was Comptroller Adeniyi’s inspection of the Ibadan Train Station Terminal and a prospective privately-owned bonded warehouse.
According to the CGC, the bonded facility, once operational, is expected to significantly improve cargo clearance and ease trade logistics within the region.
“The warehouse will complement ongoing efforts to decongest seaports and expedite the movement of goods to their final destinations. This aligns with our broader goal of simplifying customs procedures and promoting legitimate trade,” he stated.
Welcoming the CGC, the Customs Area Controller of Oyo/Osun Command, Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, reported a revenue collection of ₦28.05 billion between February and May 2025, surpassing last year’s figure of ₦23.84 billion recorded during the same period. He also disclosed the seizure of prohibited goods valued at over ₦917 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV).
Despite these achievements, Comptroller Adelaja outlined key operational challenges, including manpower shortages, limited operational vehicles, and electricity constraints at the barracks. He appealed for the deployment of 80 junior officers and the provision of 16 additional vehicles to enhance field operations.
In response, the CGC assured that the Service’s headquarters would promptly respond to the requests. He emphasised the importance of continuous professional development, urging officers to remain dedicated, knowledgeable, and committed to fulfilling the Service’s mandate.
