The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in collaboration with Youth Digest, has concluded a three-day hybrid training workshop on New Media and Strategic Communication to strengthen the capacity of its Public Relations personnel.
Held from 7 to 9 May, 2025, at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, the workshop brought together Command Public Relations Officers, reporters, editors, and personnel from the PR Unit. It focused on digital engagement, media innovation, content creation, and strategic communication to enhance the Service’s public image and outreach.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions on house style development, editorial processes, inclusive language, visual storytelling, design principles, and media law. These were facilitated by experts in journalism, communication strategy, and digital media.
Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Assistant Comptroller-General Isah Umar, delivered the keynote address. He stressed the importance of strong communication in advancing the Service’s modernisation and public engagement.
“Today marks a key step in the development of officers charged with promoting the Nigeria Customs Service,” said ACG Umar. “Capacity building is essential. I urge our younger officers to learn from the expertise of the professionals gathered here.”
Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Maiwada, who was present throughout the workshop, encouraged participants to embrace continuous learning.
“This training is vital. Knowledge is endless, and we must seize every opportunity to grow. What we’ve learned here can greatly enhance our professional effectiveness,” he said.
“In the past three days, we’ve shared valuable insights. Let’s apply these lessons to improve both ourselves and the Service.”
The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation recognising participants’ commitment to professional development.
