Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise have commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port & Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Area Command for its impressive revenue performance, which includes the generation of ₦167 billion through the successful deployment of its indigenous B’Odogwu system.

The commendation came during the committee’s visit to the command on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, where they assessed its operations and performance, specifically highlighting its innovative approach to trade facilitation.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Tenny Daniyan, briefed the law makers on the Command’s strategies for efficient service delivery, stakeholder engagement, and technological adoption.

He stated, “We ensure continuous stakeholder engagement, because we must make them very comfortable so that they become a friend of the house before we can actually have them pay, or use our port”.

He noted that the PTML Command has experienced a significant revenue boost under his leadership, recording an overall revenue collection of about ₦365 billion in 2024.

“Generally speaking, PTML is the flagship command. It is standard in the maritime industry. Because of the efficiency, people like to use it, people that want to experience good delivery of their goods, not only from the owners but also from Customs. We are well trained to ensure trade facilitation, which is key to increasing our turnover”, the CAC explained.

The Area Controller noted that a major part of the success, is the introduction of the B’Odogwu system, an indigenous customs automation platform which has so far contributed ₦167 billion to the command’s revenue. “The advantages are numerous, stakeholders have tested and are now using it. Because initially, they thought it wasn’t going to work, they said it was a herculean task, but we convinced them and our product shows for itself because at the end of the day, it’s the revenue we collect that matters”.

“B’Odogwu’s influence, acceptance, usage, and flawlessness have shown that we can do it. As at today, we’ve realised up to ₦167 billion. That means it’s our own structure that has brought this success”, he added.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Leke Abejide, expressed satisfaction with the state of operations at the terminal and the results delivered by the CAC and his team. “Area Controller, we appreciate your efforts. The terminal here is well controlled, as you said. All I want to say is keep it up, and work harder so that you will not go below your target. The way I’m seeing it, you will overshoot this target”.

The visit concluded with a hands-on demonstration of the B’Odogwu system in operation, showcasing its efficiency and impact firsthand.
