CGC Adeniyi Mourns Veteran Public Relations Icon, Mallam Kabir Dangogo

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, along with the entire management and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mallam Kabir Dangogo, a renowned journalist, scholar, and pioneer in public relations and corporate communications.

In a press release issued by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, Mallam Dangogo’s passing was described as a great loss to the public relations and media industry.
“His professionalism, leadership, and mentorship legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Born on 21 February 1949, Mallam Dangogo dedicated his life to excellence in journalism, public relations, and corporate communications. His career spanned decades of impactful service, beginning as a journalist with the New Nigerian newspaper and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) before becoming Managing Editor of the New Nigerian between 1988 and 1989. He later transitioned into academia, serving as a Senior Lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic, where he shaped future professionals in the media and communications industry.

According to the statement, his influence extended beyond Nigerian journalism into corporate communications. He served as Press Adviser for the U.S. Information Service in 1990, Public Relations Officer for Bank of the North Ltd and Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. He later founded Timex Communications, a PR firm and training school.

His leadership was recognised internationally, as he was the founding President of the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB), Secretary-General of the Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA, now APRA), and Chairman of the Nigeria Chapter of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) from 2002 to 2006.

Recognised for his immense contributions, Dangogo was a Fellow of the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON). He also received multiple awards, including the NIPR President’s Award for Excellence in Public Relations in 1996 and the Lagos State Chapter of the NIPR Award for Excellence in 2005.

The CGC extended his heartfelt condolences to Dangogo’s family, colleagues, and communications fraternity.
