The Customs Area Controller (CAC), in charge of Seme Area Command, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, has emphasised the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) role in national development, trade integrity, and economic security at the 5th Redeemer’s University International Model United Nations Conference (RUIMUN).

This was contained in a release issued by the command’s public relations officer, Superintendent of Customs, Isah Sulaiman, on Monday, 4 March 2025.
According to him, Comptroller Oramalugo, who spoke on the theme; “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations”, highlighted key challenges facing Nigeria’s economy, particularly the dangers of smuggling and the need for patriotic support of local industries.
He underscored the urgent need to support local production. “Nigeria is one of the leading rice producers in Africa, yet smuggling and low patronage threaten our local industries. When we fail to buy local rice, we kill our factories”, he said.

He also warned about the grave dangers of smuggled goods, including fake drugs, second-hand clothing, and used tyres, which pose severe health and safety risks to Nigerians.
During an interview at the event, Comptroller Oramalugo commended the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, describing him as “the best CGC in Africa.” He lauded the CGC’s achievements, including the prestigious Outstanding Revenue Collection Award, and the Best Public Servant of the Year recognition from The Sun Newspaper.
