In a renewed commitment to preserving the dignity of national symbols, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina Customs Area Command, has pledged to identify and replace all substandard national flags at its border stations.
In a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I (ASC I) Bello Isa, this resolution was made during a formal engagement with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, at the Command’s headquarters in Katsina, Katsina State.
According to the statement, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss, emphasised the importance of maintaining standard national flags at all designated locations. He acknowledged the role of national symbols in reinforcing sovereignty and assured that the Katsina Customs Area Command would take immediate action to identify and replace any substandard flags within its formations.
Comptroller Idriss assured the NOA of the Command’s strict compliance with national guidelines on flag usage, reaffirming that the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to upholding approved standards across all its locations.
“The Nigeria Customs Service remains dedicated to preserving national values and will take all necessary steps to ensure the proper display of national symbols across our border stations. We appreciate the NOA’s guidance and will continue to collaborate in maintaining these standards,” he affirmed.
He further reiterated the commitment of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, to upholding the dignity of national symbols and discipline, stating that the Service remains steadfast in this cause and will take necessary action where required.
The NOA Director in Katsina, Mukhtar Tsagem, who had earlier raised concerns over the presence of substandard national flags in some government institutions, emphasised that proper flag display is a fundamental aspect of patriotism and national identity.
“We have observed that some institutions use substandard national flags, which undermines the integrity of our national symbols. Government agencies must ensure that these symbols are treated with the respect they deserve,” Tsagem stated.
The statement further noted that this initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service in fostering national pride, discipline, and adherence to government protocols.
It reaffirmed that the Katsina Customs Area Command remains committed to setting an example in promoting and preserving Nigeria’s national identity.
