COWA National President Visits Customs Hospital Karu, Celebrates Arrival of New Year Babies

Presents Newborn Starter Packs, Food Items to Nursing Mothers

The National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) and wife of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, marked the New Year with a heartwarming outreach to nursing mothers at the Nigeria Customs Service Hospital, Karu, Abuja, on Wednesday, 1 January 2025.

Represented by the association’s Vice President, Mrs. Maryjane Itotoh, the wife of the Deputy Comptroller-General of customs (DCG) in charge of the Human Resources Development Department, Mrs. Adeniyi congratulated the mothers of newborns and prayed for the wellbeing of the babies.

Mrs. Itotoh, accompanied by other COWA members and hospital officials, visited the labour rooms, where she presented cash, baby essentials, and food items to the mothers, “On behalf of the National President of COWA, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, I present this token and baby essentials kit to you.” she said.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Mrs. Itotoh highlighted the importance of nurturing children and reiterated COWA’s commitment to supporting Customs officers’ families through empowerment programmes and trainings.

Mrs. Itotoh, who spoke about productive schedules for the year 2025, reaffirmed COWA’s plans to expand its programmes in 2025, focusing on skill acquisition, support for widows, and strengthening the welfare of Customs officers’ families.

She also commended COWA chairpersons across various Commands for commencing the year 2025 with impactful activities, including distributing gifts, visiting orphanages, and supporting those in need.

The Head of Gynaecology at the hospital, Dr. Sadiya Baba, expressed appreciation for the visit and the generous gifts, noting their significance in alleviating the challenges faced by nursing mothers amidst the high cost of living.

Doctor Baba said, “The support from COWA today is a reflection of compassion and solidarity. It will go a long way in easing the burden on the beneficiaries.”

One of the recipients, Mrs. Aisha Ibrahim, lauded the association for its thoughtful gesture. “This visit is timely and shows that we are valued and cared for. May God bless the association for their kindness.”
